Experience the Total Solar Eclipse from our beautiful backyard in Madras, Oregon!

On Monday, August 21, 2017, a Total Solar Eclipse (TSE) will make a path from one coast of the United States to the other. This has not occurred since 1918 and Madras is in the direct line for the totality of the eclipse with approximately 2 minutes and 2 seconds of complete darkness. The eclipse will begin in Madras near 9:06 a.m., with the total eclipse occurring at approximately 10:19 a.m. Observers in Madras will experience a breathtaking sight as the shadow begins to darken the peak of nearby Mt. Jefferson seconds before the total eclipse. (Downloadable Funfacts)

The Great American Eclipse of 2017 is the first opportunity to view a total eclipse visible from the contiguous United States since 1979. NASA staff, meteorologists, astronomers and eclipse chasers identify the best places to view an eclipse well in advance of the event. Several of these experts, such as cosmicpursuits.com, Michael Feiler of greatamericaneclipse.com and Fred Espenak of eclipsewise.com and mreclipse.com, suggest that Madras is THE viewing spot with the best weather prospects to see the August 2017 Eclipse.
